Edward "Eddie" Alvarez [3] (born Jan 11, 1984) is an American mixed martial artist who currently fights for ONE Championship.[4] He formerly competed in the UFC and Bellator MMA, winning earth titles in each: the UFC Lightweight Championship one time and the Bellator Lightweight Globe Championship twice. Alvarez was the offset Lightweight champion in Bellator MMA. He has also competed for the Japanese DREAM promotion, where he fought in their inaugural Lightweight Grand Prix. Alvarez also fought in one case for ProElite's EliteXC promotion.
Alvarez is the first fighter to take won championships in both Bellator MMA and the UFC. He holds notable wins over onetime globe champions Pat Curran, Michael Chandler, Shinya Aoki, Gilbert Melendez, Justin Gaethje, Anthony Pettis, Eduard Folayang and Rafael dos Anjos. Edward, the son of Louis and Lillian Alvarez, grew up in Kensington, Philadelphia and is of Puerto Rican and Irish descent.[six] [vii] [8] He started boxing at Front Street Gym at the historic period of 8 nether his male parent and Frank Kubach.[9] At the age of 11, Alvarez started wrestling in a youth wrestling plan.[10]

Mixed martial arts career [edit]
