Taco Bout a Baby Shower Food Ideas

One of the most exciting parts of pregnancy is the baby shower. And I was blessed enough to have TWO! The first shower was specifically for family and family friends, both on my side of the family and JB's. And the second shower was for friends. I split it up this way with our wedding showers and it worked out very well, so I decided to approach it the same for the baby shower as well.

For the family shower, my mom and MIL hosted it at my childhood home. But, of course, I had a little hand in the decorations and theme. 😉 I felt this gender-neutral theme would be much more fun than the typical "boy-themed" showers, and it was a definite success! What is so ironic is this entire pregnancy, I have despised Mexican food. But because of my usual love for tacos (especially the famous Vuleta Taco Bar), margaritas, and vibrant colors- this theme was right on point. From the cake to the balloons and my entire outfit, I am tagging all details from this festive fiesta below.

Decor

A lot of the decor was purchased off Amazon (because really, what is better than Prime?!). And anything not purchased from Amazon, I got off Etsy. I am tagging (most of) the items below, all of which I found for a great price!

The cake table backdrop was a project I took upon myself. And it was actually a fun project to do. Plus it was super inexpensive! By taping some plain poster boards together and adding colorful tissue paper that I cut into tassels, this backdrop was easy and budget friendly, plus looked great for photos!

I also went hands-on for the balloon garland as well. Super easy, just used the balloon garland strands you can purchase HERE or at your local Hobby Lobby and pumped up various colored balloons in 2 sizes: small and large and placed them as I felt fit throughout the strand. And after placing the strand on the mantle, I integrated faux palm leaves throughout to give it a more tropical desert vibe.

Food

My side of the family is known to throw a killer taco bar that is always the talk of the party. Crafted from recipes of our own, the grilled chicken, cilantro lime rice, queso, guacamole, and everything in between is on point with theme and taste. Specially for my shower, my mom put together a chipotle ranch dip for the veggies and an orange fluff for the fruit, both of which were amazing! She never disappoints, especially with new recipes. The food was amazing and perfect for the theme of the shower.

My MIL is the margarita queen and crafted up her famous margs for the party. We placed them in 2 separate cactus dispensers, which were sooooooooooo cute! The virgin strawberry-flavored drink was name "Baby Margarita" and the traditional lime-flavored drink spiked with Jose Cuervo himself was titled "Mama Margarita". Set up next to the dispensers were multi-colored plastic margarita glasses purchased from Amazon and some garnishes for these sweet drinks.

Dessert

Of course, I had a vision for the cake when I came up with the fiesta themed shower. I knew I wanted something simple I could glam up. And believe it or not, my cake dreams came true thanks to Walmart bakery in Elizabethtown. They perfectly crafted the round cake with multi-color ruffles and I added the cake toppers from LulaFlora off Etsy and florals from Kroger and Trader Joe's to the top. Let's talk about this cake topper, yall. Aside from the adorable mini piñata, the custom papal picado is adored with baby's name, which makes this mama so happy. I was so pleased with the quality of these products, and they added the perfect final touch to this amazing cake. This cake was definitely a major centerpiece of this shower.

Walmart also provided matching cupcakes, which I topped with DIY cactus toppers. And you'll never guess how I made them because it was so dang easy. Using toothpicks and some stickers from Target, I matched up the stickers back-to-back and BAM! I had myself some festive little desert desserts. Oh and the best part- these toppers ended up being under $3!

Favors

For favors, we decided to go with baby maracas tied with a sweet little note and some gold ribbon. These multi-colored Latin-themed baby rattles were another Amazon Prime Find and were the the perfect touch to a fiesta-themed baby shower. Along with the maracas, we purchased custom cookies designed by Kelsie with Kelso's Cookies. Located here in Elizabethtown, Kelsie makes some gorgeous cookies and always exceeds my requests with the most beautiful designs.

Outfit

I knew I wanted to wear something blue, but festive. And when I saw this dress from Red Dress Boutique, I knew it was the one. Paired with some yellow tassel Sugarfix earrings from Target, and I definitely felt like a festive queen. But my favorite part of this entire look was the custom flower hand-crafted by the amazing girls at Denizen in Elizaebethtown, KY. They went above and beyond my ideas for this look and I was so pleased with this real-floral crown, it brought me to tears. These girls are so talented and amazing to work with. And in addition to their gorgeous store, they offer a variety of services- including custom florals for weddings, showers, special events, interior designing for any space, and so much more. And for all my Nashville peeps- they are opening up a storefront in The Nations neighborhood in West Nash. You definitely wanna go check them out!
